About Protein-Shakes.ca
This started out as a project in order to improve my father's health and, hopefully, improve his lifestyle as well. Now in his 70's, he has enjoyed a life of high carbs and processed sugars, your basic meat and potatoes and apple pie type of person, so we're slowly trying to get him to eat healthier meals - we'd like to have him around for a lot longer.
So, the further we researched as to how he should be changing his diet, the more we realized how we should be changing our own diets as well and increasing our protein intake in addition to the types of protein and when and how to take our proteins and other nutritional supplements. Simple things like changing to egg whites instead of eggs. Eating spelt flour bread instead of wheat, or even multi-grain, breads. Increasing our intake of anti-oxidants and b-complex vitamins. A multitude of changes, both to our diets as well as how we lived.
Protein shakes seemed to become an important part of the diet. They're fast and easy for anyone to make, regardless of their culinary skills. You can toss just about anything into them: proteins, vitamins, minerals, fiber - you name it.
Finally, we decided that we would create a method to share our protein shake recipes, and protein-shakes.ca was born. You'll find a variety of recipes for different tastes and different occasions. In most cases you may substitute one type of protein for another, though you should read the protein content of each type of protein that you are consuming to ensure that you are getting the proper amount of protein that your body requires. Also, if a recipe calls for milk, if you are a vegetarian you may usually substitute milk for soy milk.
